Before you begin

Prepare your space

A little preparation will help you compare each fragrance clearly.

Find a neutral space.Move away from food, candles, cleaning products and other perfumes, so each fragrance reads clearly.
Lay everything out.Place your travel sprays, sample strips and coffee beans in front of you.
Take your time.There is no need to rush. Pause if the fragrances begin to blur together.

The ritual

How to evaluate a fragrance

Repeat this sequence for each scent so your comparison stays consistent.

Spray once or twice onto the end of a sample strip. There is no need to overspray.
Let it settle for five to ten seconds so the alcohol can lift.
Smell gently, holding the strip a little away from your nose. Record your first response before analysing it too closely.
Label the strip. Rest the travel spray on top, or write the name on the strip, so nothing blends together.
Reset with coffee. Breathe in the coffee beans between scents to clear the palate.
